San Diego County's dedicated metal roofing contractor. Painted, stone-coated, and natural metal systems — engineered to outlast the warranty.
A metal roof outlasts asphalt 3-to-1, reflects more heat than tile, and looks better in year fifteen than most roofs do in year one. It's not the cheapest install on the market — but it's nearly always the lowest lifetime cost.
Each category covers a range of profiles — standing seam, corrugated, shingle, shake, slate, or tile-look — and a long list of finish options.

The finish is everything. Two coatings that look identical in year one can look completely different at year ten. We spec Kynar 500® or Hylar 5000® — the industry-leading PVDF finishes — exclusively. That's the difference between a roof that holds its color for decades and one that chalks out in five years.
Finish options aren't just solid colors either — patina, copper-look, and weathered-natural metal finishes are available.

Chances are you've already seen a stone-coated roof in San Diego and assumed it was tile. That's the point — a structure that lasts like metal but reads like a traditional roof, perfect for HOA-controlled neighborhoods and architecturally specific homes.
Manufacturers we install: Unified Steel, DECRA.

These metals are different to work with. They require carefully matched fasteners to avoid galvanic corrosion, and the install is more involved. The materials cost more, too — but the result is the most distinctive roof you can put on a house, with a lifespan that can clear 80 years.
If you're considering natural metal, let's talk through whether it makes sense for your project. We've installed enough copper across the county to give you a straight answer.
Every step matters. The system is only as good as the install — and we don't cut a single one.
The installation of a permanent metal roof focuses on creating a long-lasting, durable system. The process begins with careful planning and measurement to determine the required materials.
The existing roof is typically removed, and any necessary repairs or reinforcements to the underlying structure are addressed before anything new goes down. A layer of underlayment is applied, followed by the installation of metal panels or shingles — with the proper penetrations sealed to prevent leaks. Ridge caps, sealants, and finishing details complete the system.
West Coast Roofing's experience in the above is unmatchable. 16+ years of metal installs across San Diego County, on every roof type the climate throws at us.
In San Diego County, the question isn't if a wildfire reaches your neighborhood — it's whether your home is one of the ones still standing afterward.
Every metal system we install carries a Class A fire rating — the highest available — and the panels themselves are non-combustible. No flame contribution, no embers, no melting roofing material dripping into the attic.
In a wildfire, almost every home loss starts the same way: windblown embers landing on a combustible roof surface, smoldering into the attic, and igniting the structure from above. A metal roof shuts that pathway down. There's nothing for an ember to ignite. After the Witch, Cedar, and Lilac fires, neighborhoods across our service area saw the pattern firsthand — entire streets gone, with metal-roofed homes still standing.
It also helps with insurance. Many San Diego carriers now require Class A roofing in high-risk zones, and some offer premium discounts for non-combustible roofs. We're happy to provide the documentation your insurer asks for.
No — modern metal roofs are installed over solid decking and underlayment. They are actually no louder than asphalt or tile from inside a typical home.
No. Metal does not attract lightning, and in the rare event of a strike, a metal roof actually dissipates the charge more safely than a combustible material would.
Sometimes — but we generally don't recommend it. A proper tear-off lets us inspect and repair the substrate, which is where most premature roof failures actually start.
Roughly 2–3× the upfront cost of a basic asphalt re-roof. But factor in lifespan, energy savings, insurance discounts and resale lift — and the lifetime cost is typically lower.
Most do — especially with stone-coated steel, which reads as tile or shingle. We've done plenty of HOA-approved metal installs across the county. Bring us the CC&Rs and we'll spec a system that meets them.
